Amferny Arias

From Alajuela to NCAA National Champion

Originally from Alajuela, Costa Rica, Amferny Arias Sinclair has forged an exemplary path combining academic and athletic excellence. A product of Liga Deportiva Alajuelense’s youth system, he represented Costa Rica at the U‑17 World Cup. In 2019, he made the leap to U.S. college soccer by joining Syracuse University.

Leader at Syracuse and National Champion

Over four seasons, Amferny was a midfield linchpin for the Syracuse Orange, appearing in 64 matches. In his senior year, he was named captain and guided the team to its first NCAA national championship in 2022. In the final against Indiana, the match finished 2–2 after extra time, and Amferny converted one of the decisive penalties in the 7–6 shootout victory.

Career After Graduation

After earning his degree in Economics, Amferny was selected 45th overall in the MLS SuperDraft by Real Salt Lake in December 2022 and signed with their reserve side, the Real Monarchs, in MLS Next Pro.
